One if the selling points of this app is that you can PRACTICE learning, writing, and reading IPA. Unfortunately, the IPA keyboard does not work and several of the activities cannot even be accessed or performed because of this glitch. Until then, I recommend a good linguistics teacher and staying away from this corporate textbook affiliated app.

Does anyone else has the same problem?

When I go to practice or take the quiz i am unable to type and enter my answer. I love this app please help!!!

It does not work in iOS 7, I spent more than 10$ and does not work, it needs an update. Hurry up!!!!

Very disappointed that the key board does not work with os7. Have been waiting for the issue to be resolved and it hasnt. Very disappointed as this could have been a great tool. Please fix.

Love the simplicity. All I would add is a diagram (maybe an animation) of how the tongue and lips move as the pronunciation changes

My fault, perhaps, being swayed by good reviews and the brand. Never imagined it was restricted to a phonetic system. I was reading and writing US English at college level when I was 10. I was looking for help was scientific terms and other rareties, so this app has been deleted.

This app is great for learning IPA quickly. Just got it last night and already have a grasp of it. Perfect for music majors learning to sing other languages without too much of a struggle! I definitely recommend!

I normally dont write reviews but I want people to know that if they are thinking that they want to learn phonetics with this that this app doesnt have the complete IPA. Its also missing the symbols for the stressed "tt" and the unstressed "tt". Its also not correct with the "e" symbol entirely. If they could correct this app then I will change it to 5 stars

This app has a very specific purpose: making the connection between phonemic transcriptions (using the International Phonetic Alphabet) and spelling and sound at the word level. While it is great to see both American and British English included in one app, the learner must accept that practice and quiz sections will only accept one transcription (even if the word has variable pronunciation with alternate transcriptions). The central pronunciation chart has a few technical flaws but is still quite usable once you get used to it. This could be a useful tool for the student of phonetics and phonology seeking practice with transcription. As a pronunciation training tool, it is less promising due its lack of description of articulatory features and being limited to single word utterances. This app is good, it helped me a lot throughout my Phonetics course. My only concern is that it should have the complete IPA, with the place and manner or articulation.

Unfortunately this App stopped working with iOS 8.2 and 8.3. I tried to buy a new word list (in-app purchase). The new word list never downloaded or installed no matter how often I tried it. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Now it doesnt even load the "buy word lists" section any more. Just a spinning wheel. Apart from that the app crashes every time when Im connected to a mobile network (4G). One has to go into flight mode or be connected to a wifi for it to work. (No receiving phone calls when using the app!) Apparently the app tries to connect to a server at startup. Once this fails, it crashes. Im in China and have tried to connect through 4G, wifi, using VPNs connected to different countries. Doesnt work. Very disappointed and no idea how to get my money back. Avoid this software!
